Community guidelines
Talkabout works because people are kind to each other while they learn. These are the rules everyone agrees to. When we act on a report, we tell you which one was broken.
The short version
- Be kind, especially about mistakes.
- It's a language exchange. Nobody owes anyone more.
- No scams, no selling, nothing sexual.
- Be yourself, and keep private things private.
All the rules
Rule 1: Be kind and respectful
Everyone here is learning, and mistakes are the point. Be patient, correct gently, and remember there's a person on the other side of the chat.
Rule 2: No harassment or hate
No insults, threats, bullying or attacks on anyone's race, ethnicity, nationality, religion, gender, sexuality, disability or accent. If someone asks you to stop, stop.
Rule 3: No unwanted personal advances
Talkabout is for practising languages. Don't flirt with or pursue someone who hasn't shown they want that, including anyone whose mood is "Here to practise" who hasn't favourited you back.
Rule 4: No sexual content
No sexual messages, images or requests, whoever you're talking to.
Rule 5: No scams, spam or selling
No asking for money, crypto or gift cards, no advertising, and no copy-pasted messages sent to lots of people.
Rule 6: Adults only
You must be 18 or older to use Talkabout. We remove accounts of anyone younger.
Rule 7: Be yourself: no fake profiles or impersonation
Use your own name and details. Don't pretend to be someone else, and don't run more than one account.
Rule 8: Keep other people's private details private
Don't share someone's messages, photos, contact details or anything else they told you in private without their permission.
If something goes wrong
You can report or block anyone right from the chat. Breaking a rule can lead to a warning, a removed message, a suspension or a ban, and we always tell you which rule it was. You can appeal a suspension or a ban from inside the app. See the terms of use for the details.
