We built the ground rules in from day one, so you can spend your attention on the conversation.
No photos needed
An initial and a colour is plenty. Add a photo only if you want to, and never because someone asked.
Moderation that explains itself
If we act on a report or on your account, we tell you what happened and which rule it broke. Suspensions and bans can be appealed. No silent bans.
Filters are always free
Language, level, country, age, gender and interests. Finding the right partner will never sit behind a paywall.
Get to know each other first
Phone numbers, emails and social handles can't be sent in a chat until you've actually talked for a while. New accounts can only start a few chats a day, which keeps scammers slow.

Is it free?
Yes. Finding partners, every filter, chatting, corrections and favourites are all free. If we add paid extras later, they'll be nice-to-haves, never the basics.
Is it safe?
It's adults only, photos are optional, and your contact details stay hidden until you've talked with someone for a while. When we moderate, we tell you which rule was broken and why, and you can appeal a suspension or ban.
If someone ignores your mood or makes you uncomfortable, you can report or block them right from the chat.
Is it only about languages?
Yes, it's a language exchange. You come to practise, and your mood tells people what you're here for.
Good conversations do sometimes turn into friendships, and what two adults make of that is their business. Favourites are private unless they're mutual, so nobody gets pushed and nobody gets turned down in public.
Do I need to install anything?
No. Talkabout runs in your browser on a laptop or a phone. Chats and corrections work everywhere; there's nothing to download.
Which languages can I practise?
Any language someone else speaks: you can choose from more than 180. We're starting out with English, Spanish, German and Japanese, so that's where you'll find the most people at first.
