Practise Thai with native speakers who want to learn Lao
Talkabout pairs people who help each other: they speak what you're learning and are learning what you speak. Free, in your browser, adults only.
Who's here
Few people are exchanging Thai and Lao yet. Sign up and we'll show you partners as they join, or invite someone who speaks Thai.
About Thai for Lao speakers
Thai is written in the Thai script; Lao uses the Lao script. Chatting in writing is a good way to get used to a new script, because you can take your time with every message.
Both are Tai–Kadai languages, so expect words and grammar that feel familiar.
Thai is related to Zhuang.
How the exchange works
- Say what you speak and what you're learning. Talkabout shows you people who speak Thai natively and are learning Lao.
- Write to someone. Take turns: some messages in Thai, some in Lao, so you both get to practise.
- Fix each other's messages. Suggest a correction on any message and your partner sees exactly what changed. You choose how much you want corrected.
Safe by default
Talkabout is for adults only. Photos and contact details unlock only after you've both written to each other, nobody can flood your inbox, and favourites stay private unless you both choose each other.
You can block or report anyone from the chat. Everyone agrees to the community guidelines, and moderators tell you which rule was broken when they act on a report.
